DESCRIPTION

The MQ-2 Gas Sensor is a low-cost gas and smoke detection sensor widely used in Arduino and ESP8266/ESP32 projects. It is designed to detect combustible gases and smoke in indoor environments.

MQ-2 Sensor Specifications

FeatureDescription
Sensor NameMQ-2 Gas Sensor Module
Operating Voltage5V DC
Current ConsumptionApproximately 150 mA (heater)
Detection Range300–10,000 ppm (varies by gas)
OutputAnalog (A0) and Digital (D0)
Preheat Time20–60 seconds (recommended), 24 hours for best calibration
Operating Temperature-10°C to +50°C

Detectable Gases

The MQ-2 can detect:

  1. Smoke
  2. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)
  3. Methane (CH?)
  4. Butane (C?H??)
  5. Propane
  6. Hydrogen (H?)
  7. Alcohol vapors (limited sensitivity)
Codes

#define MQ2 A0

void setup() {
  Serial.begin(9600);
}

void loop() {
  int gasValue = analogRead(MQ2);

  Serial.print("Gas Level: ");
  Serial.println(gasValue);

  if (gasValue > 500) {
    Serial.println("Gas/Smoke Detected!");
  }

  delay(1000);
}
